Retroscreen Virology's recently appointed Medical Director, Anthony Gilbert, will today be giving a talk on the Company's unique clinical trial services at SMi's 4th Biannual Vaccines Summit. The talk entitled '90 years of quarantine studies with Influenza 1918-2008' will describe Retroscreen’s influenza and RSV experimental challenge model.
This model has recently been used to provide the first proof of concept of a small interfering RNA (siRNA) against Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and the first proof of concept of a DNA vaccine against influenza.
Dr. Robert Lambkin-Williams, Managing Director of Retroscreen Virology Limited, comments: “Today’s Summit will enable Retroscreen both to share its historical knowledge, gained from extensive studies on its own samples of the 1918 Spanish Influenza strain, and also to encourage attendees to anticipate modern day threats. With media and academic concerns about modern day strains such as H5N1 at an all time high, we hope that the summit will help establish common objectives for 21st century virus research, manufacturing, drug delivery and, above all, public education.”
SMi's 4th Biannual Vaccines Summit runs from Monday 16th to Tuesday 17th June 2008, at The Hatton, London. Anthony Gilbert’s presentation starts at 14.30 hrs. For more information on the event, please visit: http://www.smi-online.co.uk/events/programme.asp?is=4&ref=2863&day=2
