Retroscreen Virology is Europe’s leading specialist virology contract research organisation (CRO). The work we conduct is dedicated to creating the next generation of antiviral drugs and vaccines for a number of respiratory and enteric viral diseases. Our research consists of laboratory-based pre-clinical services performed by the Translational Research group, and human viral challenge studies (Phase 1b and Phase 2a proof-of-concept) which are usually performed in our purpose built unique quarantine unit.

Experimental challenge studies, where healthy volunteers are infected with virus so that novel antiviral drugs and vaccines can be assessed in a controlled manner, can rapidly reduce the time and cost of drug development by accelerating the selection of safe and effective doses and dosing regimes. These studies are particularly useful with viruses that show Seasonal infection rates in the general population, since this model enables healthy volunteers to be infected at any time of the year.
