Dr Rob Lambkin-Williams, Chief Scientific Officer
Dr Rob Lambkin-Williams joined Retroscreen in 1995 as senior scientist and, during his tenureship, the Company has seen the business grow and the Company’s client base expand dramatically. Rob is an expert in respiratory viruses and HIV, recent publications include work on vaccines and antivirals against influenza, SARS, RSV, rhinovirus and HIV. Rob completed his PhD in "Avian influenza (Bird Flu)" at Warwick University. In December 2010, Rob assumed the full time role of Chief Scientific Officer.
Dr Anthony Gilbert, Medical Director
Dr Gilbert joined Retroscreen Virology Ltd in October 2007 as Medical Director. Dr Gilbert lends a unique blend of medical expertise, both from his NHS clinical experience and from his clinical research background. His professional activities have included work in pain research and vaccine and antiviral research. Having led numerous studies in London's teaching hospitals to Good Clinical Practice guidelines, he focuses on clinic development through evidence-based practice.
Dr Gilbert obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. He is a member of the Institute of Clinical Research and has been appointed as an expert member of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital/Institute of Musculoskeletal Sciences Local Research Ethics Committee.
Gareth Ridge, Head of Project Operations
Gareth Ridge (MA Cantab) joined Retroscreen in 2009. As Head of Project Operations he brings a wealth of experience having managed in excess of 40 clinical studies (Phase I-III) and also having been involved in many business change and system implementation projects. He’s a very focussed and driven professional, with great leadership, direction and line-management skills. He manages the department according to a budgeted top and bottom line, whilst at the same time delivering a high quality service to Retroscreen’s clients.
Mark Redfern, Analytical Research Manager
Mark joined Retroscreen in November 2011 and brings with him 12 years of industry experience working in vaccine development for both large pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies. He has previously managed laboratories across a range of functional areas, including Research, Analytical and Preclinical Development. Mark’s experience includes working on a wide range of novel clinical stage prophylactic and therapeutic vaccine candidates, including recombinant proteins, plasmid DNA and live attenuated viral and bacterial vectored vaccines. Mark, amongst others, holds a DPhil qualification in Molecular Biology and Yeast Genetics from the University of Bath.
Douglas Stewart, Head of Clinical Operations
Doug has been with Retroscreen since 2009. He has held many roles within clinical research, with over 11 years of management experience. He has an academic background with qualifications in biological sciences, nursing and medical law. At Retroscreen, he works closely with all operational teams to ensure that the clinic delivers the right number of volunteers to take part in quarantines safely.
Andrew Catchpole, Associate Director, Virology
Andrew has been at Retroscreen since 2003. He holds a DPhil in Molecular Virology of Influenza Virus and a BSc in Virology. He has over 10 years of experience in virology research and has worked with a wide range of respiratory and blood borne viruses. His virology background and experience in managing GLP and GCP studies enables him to act in a scientific advisory capacity on projects conducted by Retroscreen. In addition, he contributes regularly as a guest Virology lecturer to Queen Mary University of London.
Ian Meikle, Director, Business Development
Ian joined Retroscreen in August 2010, and is responsible for growing the company’s pipeline of projects with Sponsors across the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. He has over 16 years of experience in the Contract Research Industry, and has held senior level business development positions at a number of leading Contract Research Organisations, including Quintiles, Covance and Pharmanet.
Sumitava Dutta, Director, Translational Research Business Support
Sumitava Dutta started his career at a world renowned CRO, working as a Study Director in Pre-Clinical and Clinical Metabolism studies. After successful completion of training, he moved on to working with GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals specialising in microdialysis and electrochemical detection. After the restructuring of this company he returned to the contract research sector where he became a Senior Study Director with specialist interest in HPLC and LC-MS/MS in tandem with radiodetection. Prior to joining Retroscreen, Sumitava was at a new start-up company where he was closely involved in growing the business and became heavily involved in operations at director level in the metabolism area. In his current role, Sumitava is involved in both business planning for new laboratory service products, and sales activities for the Translational Research division of the company.
